Legal Services

I provide the following services for my clients:

Business and Commercial Litigation - Businesses must routinely enforce their contractual provisions, or risk losing those rights and suffering abuse from clients and competitors. When proper legal techniques are followed, you might recover interest, legal costs, and attorney's fees in addition to the original amount owed. I can take your business records to court, turn an unpaid account into a valid judgment, then enforce that judgment to get the debtor to pay what your business is owed. I can enforce your non-competition agreements, trade secrets, sales or service agreements, construction contracts and more. I can assist businesses collect on their accounts receivable portfolio on a percentage, contigent fee basis. For larger cases, alternative dispute resolution options may be available to avoid the time, publicity, and expense of an court action.

Property Damage and Subrogation Services - Many people suffer great financial losses through damage caused by other parties. When a fire, collision, flood or mold damages real or personal property, the cost of cleanup, repair, and replacement can be exorbitant. I have represented many people to obtain reimbursement for the lost property from the party responsible for the damage. I also represent insurance companies in subrogation matters.

Evictions - Every landlord, whether residential or commercial, relies on good tenants to pay the expenses of the investment property. With the difficulty of finding tenants, many landlords hesitate to start eviction proceedings. However, delay is costly. Court proceedings may take several months, and some tenants cause disturbances that can lead to liability with local enforcement agencies. the loss of other tenants. I make evictions a top priority in my schedule, to remove tenants as fast as possible.

Business Preparation - Businesses need sound, comprehensive legal advice to equip the company for future success. New businesses need formal organization documents to determine the rights of the owners, to clarify responsibilities of officers and directors, and to authorize the business with state agencies. Attention should be given to the relationship between the owners, to design the structure with clear decision-making procedures. Certain contracts are necessary for effective operation of a business. Relying on the wealth of information from tested legal treatises, I can prepare any type of business contract, including leases, construction contracts, sales or vendor agreements, independent contractor agreements, and employment contracts. I can also assist with filing annual reports with the secretary of state's office, and becoming registered agent for service with the secretary of state or an agency like the RI Contractor's Licensing and Registration Board.
